Only a few places left

We have had a lot of enquiries about which classes, in this years workshop programme, still have any places left. Here is a list of the classes. If you are interested in coming along, ring the shop 01633 810801 and book your place.

Saturday April 19th - Fantastic Finishes with Avril Hann. Avril still has a few places left on her class. This workshop is packed with information on all the ways you can finish your quilt when the quilting is done.

Saturday May 14th - Introduction to 3D on the Embellisher with Myfanwy Hart. Have a look at Myfanwy's blog
to see a photo of the dear little shoes that are part of this workshop. You will also be making a bowl in the class. The class will be held in the hall of Duffryn Community Centre so Myfanwy can take another four people. Remember to ring the shop if you want to come. 01633 810801

Saturday May 21st - Drum Bag with Ruth Bishop. Ruth designed this bag when she saw an African print fabric at Busy Bees. Have a look at the photo of the bag on the Workshop & Courses page on Busy Bees web site. We have put the fabric away so you can use it to make the bag, if you wish but I am sure the bag would look good in lots of different fabrics.

Friday June 3rd - Flower Pounding with Ruth Bishop. If you are a keen gardner and a lot of textile workers are, this is a lovely way to transfer the flowers in your garden onto fabric. Ruth has brought a sample of her work into the shop for you to see. She has only got two places left on this class, so if you would like to come book soon.

Saturday June 4th - Seasons with Sandie Lush. It is very rare indeed for Sandie to have any places left on her workshops. This is a wonderful chance to learn hand applique from a true master of her craft. On this one day class you will be able to choose from a selection of appliqued wreath blocks, representing the different seasons. We have a sample of one of the blocks in the shop for you to see.

Saturday June 11th - Hawaiian in a Hurry with Deborah O'Hare. We only have one place left on this class so you will have to be quick, if you would like to learn Deborah's quick fusing and machine stitch method to make a Hawaiian cushion, cover or quilt. Deborah uses the quilt as you go method to construct the finish piece of work, so lots to learn in this class. Samples of the items you can make at this class are in the shop.

Saturday June 18th - Inspired by Hundertwasser with Angie Hughes. This workshop teaches you how to use transfoils, sweetie foils and silks to decorate the surface of black cotton velvet. You then top it off with organza and machine embroidery, all inspired by the patterns and colours used by painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Angie has used this method to make some stunning bags but you could also use it to make other items.

Saturday June 25th - House Blocks with Attitude with Katharine Guerrier. Liberated piecing techniques are applied to house blocks to give your quilts that contemporary look. This is an improvisational way of working without templates and no two-house blocks turn out the same. Quick pieced flying geese units are adapted to make pine trees, then a border of irregular sawtooth sashing and simple blocks completes your quilt or wall hanging which can be made any size from small wall hanging to king size. You will learn a variety of piecing techniques including how to fit all these separate pieces together into an effective and individual quilt. All templates free. A relaxed day when you don’t have to worry too much about precision piecing. Ideal for scrap bag quilts to use up those bits. Students will need to be familiar with the rotary cutting set and straight stitch on the sewing machine.
